Our nation suffered a huge blow ten years ago. Today is a day for rememberance of those brave and innocent souls who died. But let's also remember how strong we all are. How we have overcome this tragedy and have not allowed our enemies to take us down. Remember. Hug those dearest to you. Keep trying to make the world a better place. Embrace the future. Love.
My husband's office was 2 blocks from the WTC. I was frantic because I couldn't get in touch with him after the planes hit and after the towers went down! He had to walk about 45 or 50 blocks up to Penn Station to take the train home when all access was opened. He was covered in ashes. But, I was lucky that my husband came home that night after such a horrible tragedy. We have friends whose family were in the WTC and did not go home that day. One friend, his wife was above where one of the planes hit. He was in Japan, with no way to get home right away. They had children, but family took care of them. I cannot even imagine his fear, his grief. Another friend lost his son.
ReplyDeleteTodd Beamer's wife lives very close to me and I actually met her one day some years ago. She was pregnant at the time of 9/11. Her husband said, "Let's roll"! He and others stopped the hijackers on Flight 93 from going to Washington DC. But, gave up their lives by doing so. They are heroes. One lady on that flight was pregnant.
I couldn't see the smoke from the Towers from my home. I am glad of that. But, for a very long time I looked up when I saw and heard a jet on it's way to NYC, chills running down my spine.
Sorry, I don't know how my name is posted as Rose in the comment above, because I am KATHLEEN!
ReplyDeleteI have been glued to the TV today watching the documentaries. I have felt every emotion. Critics abound about what steps our nation took then and where we are today but, no sound rings truer than the beauty of American courage.
ReplyDeleteRose, that must have been so scary for you. Today must be really hard.
ReplyDeleteOops, I answered "Rose" before I read your second comment, Kathleen.
ReplyDeleteI did not watch TV today, but I reflected on the events of 9/11 and said a prayer for all those who lost their lives, saved a life and all those who ar morning loved ones and friends.
ReplyDeleteLove and Peace is what I want to remember today..
I thought it was surprising how many countries in the world also had a remembrance ceremony for 9/11. I hadn't realized what a huge impact it made on people around the world. I was pleased to see that solidarity.
ReplyDeleteI pray for our country. May God bless and protect us. The US has its problems and weaknesses, but we are still standing!
Cheryl,
ReplyDeleteYou are right, it was neat to see how other countries remembered us.
