Release Day

The trade size of The First Love Cookie Club is on sale today.

Compare to the cover of the mass market paperback that came out last year.

They change the cover and the back cover blurb because apparently the audience for trade prefers different kinds of covers than the audience for mass market. Since I've only been in mass market before, I never realized all the behind the scenes marketing stuff that goes on.

Which cover do you like best? (The trade-size is tactile. It feels like flour on the cover. Very compelling effect.) Which format do you prefer? Trade or mass market? The trade size costs $2.00 more, but the font is much bigger and there's added content. Does the format of a book change your opinion of it? (I've heard some people say mass-market is more throw-away than trade).

  1. I think when it comes to trade -- because they are larger than Mass Market -- something "extra" for that cost is always nice. I like tactile covers myself as long as they're not cheesy. I have one that has glitter on it and it annoys me because the glitter keeps coming off. LOL. But for the cover to feel bumpy like flour... I think that's awesome. Add in that the book has that cooking/crafting focus and I think the readers who like that are *totally* into how things feel/textures. It's a plus plus. :)

  2. I like the them both, but I would lean more to the Mass Market... Just that it seems a bit more eye grabbing to me.. The trade one is nice, but if I ssw it on the store shelf, I don't think it would "pop" out at me..

  3. Ooh, I hear you about glitter. I have a glittery shirt that I love, but husband growls whenever I wear it because I get glitter all over his car.

  5. I'm partial to the original (blue) cover for a total psychological reason. When you look at the picture, everything about it says home, family, love, belonging... everything the holiday represents. That idealized dream of what we all wish and long for. And given the story itself (about finding a place you belong, acceptance, family, roots, etc) it really speaks to the heart of the matter.

The trade cover is nice and maybe more focus on the crafting element of the story than the emotional. So it's nice and everything, but yeah... that first cover gets me every time.

  6. Happy Release Day for the trade size for The First Love Cookie Club. It's my favourite Twilight book. I read both mmp and trade size books but prefer trade size books. It is easier to care for and the spacing is better. With mmp books, it's very easy to crease the spine and it has a chunky feel to it. I like both covers but favour the orignal one more because it has that Christmas, warm fuzzy feel to it.

  7. I actually have the blue one but I haven't read it yet. I like the size of the trade but my attraction goes right to the warm glow of a snowy night.

  8. I like the new cover more. I am not sure why but I do. I guess it is the whole cookie thing because I do LOVE cookies. I like the smaller books with the lower price, especially in this economy. I also like to read while I am walking on the tread mill and the bigger books are tougher to hold.
