Writing About Food

I'm working on revisions for my third book in the Jubilee, Texas series. The heroine is a baker so at this stage, it's time for me (and my clone) to start testing out some of the recipes that will be included in the book. Today my clone tested this recipe. It sounds a little icky, but is actually quite good. All the recipes have to have a Texas theme in some way.

They're called Tangadillo Popcorn Balls(Armadillo, Texas, get it?) And the clone molded them in the shape of armadillos. (Sort of)

Start with Popcorn:

Then proceed:

Tangadillos (popcorn balls)
Ingredients

2 cups white sugar
1 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup water
salt to taste
1T BBQ sauce original flavor (add 2T for a stronger flavor)
5 quarts popped popcorn
Directions

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar, corn syrup, butter and water. Stir and heat to hard-crack stage or 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Remove from heat, add BBQ sauce; mix well.

Pour slowly over popped popcorn while stirring. Wait 5 minutes and shape into armadillos.

What makes them so yummy is the complex flavor and texture. Salty and sweet, tangy and crunchy. These popcorn balls engage your senses and activate your bliss point.

Ever wish you had a clone to help you with things? I'm so grateful to have found mine. The clone will be making more appearances here as she does things for me. We hope to have pictures of her in action soon. (We being the clone and I).

  2. We're going to have clone fun. It was all my clone's idea. She's smarter than I am.

  3. Popcorn with bbq sauce sounds interesting and definitely Texan.

Think of all the mischief you and your clone could make. That might be too much fun. Just don't let her make a copy of herself. (Remember Multiplicity?

  4. I'm a fan of popcorn with Parmesan cheese and a little cayenne pepper. Yum.

And man, when I'm stuck doing housework? I'd love a clone. Of course she'd wind up doing everything... but I'd love a clone.
